Both the Xiaomi Redmi 4A and Evok Power come encased in a plastic body design. The Redmi 4A sports a complete unibody design while the Evok Power’s backplate is removable. The plastic used on both the phones seem sturdy and decent in terms of quality. The Redmi 4A is smaller and slimmer than the Micromax Evok Power which looks and feels bulky. While the Evok Power has an unusual micro USB charging port on the top and a 3.5 MM audio jack adjacent to it. At the bottom of the Redmi 4A are the micro USB slot and a microphone. Both the Redmi 4A and Micromax Evok Power sports a 1280×720 HD display comprising of 296 and 294 PPI respectively. Images and text look sharp and crisp on Redmi 4A’s display. The device’s screen is responsive in terms of navigation. The maximum brightness is decent as using the device in daylight did not cause much issues. Whereas, Evok Power’s screen is responsive too but the border bezel does not make the screen look impressive and it only adds on to the bulky look of the phone. The screen quality is good but seems a bit too saturated and things look zoomed on the display. Both the device displays are good when it comes to adapting screen brightness.
In terms of display quality, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A is a clear winner.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4A run on Android 6.0 out of the box and is based on the MIUI 8 skin. On the other hand, the Micromax Evok Power runs on stock Android 6.0 but comes with lot of bloatware. Operating the Redmi 4A is a breeze and the device handle most of the load with ease. Whereas the Micromax Evok Power has a bit of lag and it is visible during the screen transitions and app switching. The UI of the Evok Power is not that great, the screen content seem scattered and there is no uniformity. Both the phones come with some gestures for opening camera app and enabling flashlight but that is all.
The Redmi 4A’s user interface is clean and minimal and there is minimal to no bloatware installed on the device, the Redmi 4A is a clear winner.
[nextpage title=”Performance” ]
The performance gap between both the devices is big despite both devices carrying a quad core processor. The Redmi 4A’s snapdragon 425 outperforms Evok Power’s MediaTek MT 6737 processor. Talking about the performance of the processors, both the CPU’s perform identical and there is not much to be said about the speed too. Both the quad core processors are clocked at a similar speed. Something that can be noticed is that Snapdragon chips are known to run cooler and consume less power which can be a winning point for Redmi 4A. While, the MediaTek processors are known to consume a lot of power and heat up pretty quickly.
Gaming on the Redmi 4A is far better and smooth than on the Evok Power. The Evok power even stutters while playing casual games like the Subway Surfers and Temple Run OZ. Mutlitasking is better on the Redmi 4A and RAM management on the Evok Power is not that great despite both phones carrying 2 GB of RAM. We ran Geekbench 4 on both the devices and the results for the same is posted below. Playing games and recording videos did not make either of the phone a lot a hotter and it was comfortable to use both the devices for a longer period of time.
In terms of performance, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A is a clear winner.
The Xiaomi Redmi 4A sports a 13 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front facing camera which is quite great when it comes to capturing detailed photographs. Whereas, Micromax Evok Power’s 8 MP rear camera and 5 MP front camera is not that great when it comes to photography. The images clicked in daylight were fine but when it came to capturing detailed photographs, the images either turned out washed or grainy in case of Evok Power.
The selfie camera of the Redmi 4A is excellent when it comes to the price we pay for it and the Evok Power does not do justice to the premium paid for it. When it comes to low light photography, the Redmi 4A struggles in capturing sharp photographs and the images taken are grainy. Surprisingly, the Evok Power captures decent low light photographs. The Redmi 4A and Evok Power record videos at 1080P at 30 FPS and 720P at 30 FPS respectively.
On the photography front the Xiaomi Redmi 4A is a clear winner.

The Redmi 4A features a 3120 mAh of battery while the Micromax Evok Power boasts a whooping 4000 mAh of battery. When it comes to real life test, I was taken aback as both the phones lasted almost the same duration. The Redmi 4A lasts for more than a day and sometimes can even take you through two days on a single charge. Micromax Evok Power’s fat battery is great but it will not take you through two days like the Redmi 4A can. None of the phones come along with fast charging and both the phones take about 2-3 hours to charge completely.
0-50% – Xiaomi Redmi 4A (1 Hr 10 Minutes), Micromax Evok Power (1 Hr 20 Minutes)
50-100% – Xiaomi Redmi 4A (1 Hr 20 Minutes), Micromax Evok Power (1 Hr 40 Minutes)
Despite having a huge battery, the Evok Power does not offer a promising battery life and difference in battery life is not much in both the phones. So, none of the phones are the winner.
Needless to say, the Micromax Evok Power comes with a fingerprint sensor and which is an appreciable feature in the 7000Rs budget mark. But does the fingerprint sensor perform well? The Micromax Evok Power’s fingerprint sensor is responsive but it is slower and sometime fails to recognize the fingerprint.
In terms of Fingerprint sensor, The Micromax Evok Power is a winner as the Redmi 4A does not feature a fingerprint sensor.
In terms of onboard acoustics, none of the phones have an incredible sound quality. The ringtones are audible but stop right there. The sound output from the device speaker is distorted and unpleasant. Hearing from the earphones is good experience but always opt for a better earphone to savor a better sound experience.
None of the phones carry quality acoustics onboard. So, none of the phones is a winner when it comes to acoustics.
When it comes to overall specifications and reliability, the Xiaomi Redmi 4A proves to be sure winner and a worthy pick. The only thing that the Evok Power features other than the Redmi 4A is the fingerprint sensor which is also not faster. Moreover, the Redmi 4A is available for just 5,999 rupees and the Evok Power costs 6,999 rupees.
