As scheduled, Xiaomi has launched its latest flagship – the Xiaomi Mi8. The handset has been launched at an event in China. The smartphone has been in the leaks since a long time. It is a successor of Mi6 which was launched last year. The company skipped Mi7 and chose Mi8 as it is celebrating its 8th anniversary.
Xiaomi Mi8 Price and Availability
As of now, the smartphone’s availability is limited to China but we expect the company to launch this phone in India very soon. The Xiaomi Mi8 comes in three variants: 6GB RAM with 64GB ROM, 6GB RAM with 128GB ROM and 6GB RAM with 256GB ROM priced at Yuan 2699 (Rs 28,456 approx.), Yuan 2,999 (Rs 31,600 approx.) and Yuan 3299 (Rs 34,700 approx) respectively.
Xiaomi Mi8 Specifications and Features
The Xiaomi Mi8 features a 6.21 inch full HD+ AMOLED display (made by Samsung) with 18:7:9 aspect ratio. It is Xiaomi’s very first handset to sport a notch which is wider than any regular notch which has an advanced Infrared face unlock recognition system. Xiaomi claims that this feature will also work in dark scenario and can’t be fooled by photos or mask or the user.
Sporting a metal body with glass back design, the Xiaomi Mi8 comes with latest MIUI 10 which is based on Android Oreo. It is powered by Qualcomm’s top-end Snapdragon 845 processor. The smartphone is backed by a 3,400 mAh battery.
Coming to the camera, the Xiaomi Mi8 features a combo of two 12MP cameras on the rear. Out of them, the first camera is a wide-angle lens with ½.55-inch sensor and f/1.8 aperture; whereas the secondary camera is a telephoto lens with f/2.4 aperture.
Talking about camera features, its rear cameras have PDAF (phase detection autofocus), 4-axis OIS (optical image stabilization) and an LED flash. At the front, the company has placed a 20 megapixels camera which has f/2.0 aperture, 3D portrait lighting and AI beautification.
Further, the Xiaomi Mi8 is also the world’s first smartphone to feature dual-frequency GPS and the company claims that the navigation frequency has been enhanced to 3-5 times higher.
