Ever since Reliance launched the JioPhone, and recently the JioPhone 2, the company has further expanded its reach among the masses in India. The phones are not just another feature phones, but can be termed as smartphones in the sense that they bring WiFi connectivity to these simple devices. Furthermore, they support 4G network as well.
However, as much as the JioPhones are sought after by many people, they didn’t support one of the most popular and widely used chat messenger on the planet, WhatsApp. Now though, the messenger has been made available on the JioPhone as well as on the JioPhone 2. The developers originally promised that they would create a dedicated app for the KaiOS (the OS that runs in JioPhones) and now they have delivered on that promise.
The WhatsApp for JioPhones is now available for download via JioPhone AppStore (since September 10). However, the app will also be rolled out to all JioPhones by September 20.
The availability of the WhatsApp Messenger on JioPhones is a very important update. In fact, many people earlier didn’t go for these phones only because it didn’t run the WhatsApp. The Vice President of WhatsApp, Chris Daniels, commented, “Millions of people across India can now use WhatsApp private messaging on the best-in-class JioPhone across India. By designing this new app for KaiOS, we hope to expand the ability for people to communicate with anyone in India and around the world by offering the best messaging experience possible to JioPhone users.”
