In a surprisingly quiet turn of events, Vivo has launched the X21 UD smartphone in India at a price of Rs 35,990 (available through Flipkart). And without a shadow of doubt, the only and the biggest talking point about the Vivo X21 UD is its under-display fingerprint sensor. This also makes it the first smartphone in India to come with this radical tech.
The Vivo X21 UD is dominated by a large 6.28-inch display which is of the Super AMOLED variety. And yes, it comes with the notch that so many people seem to hate but the phone manufacturers think otherwise. The resolution is 1080 x 2280 pixels resolution.
Coming to the processing power, the latest Vivo smartphone in India is equipped with the Snapdragon 660 processor along with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage (expandable up to 256 GB). Furthermore, there’s a dual camera at the back with comprised of 12 MP + 5 MP lenses while the front is bestowed with a 12 MP lens. The operating system is a FunTouch OS 4.0 which is based on Android Oreo 8.1. The battery is a 3,200 mAh unit.
But here comes the interesting part. While the screen integrated fingerprint sensor is definitely one of the most interesting technologies people are willing to experience, we are unsure of the phone’s success given its price tag and the specifications it carry. At nearly Rs 1,000 cheaper, we have OnePlus 6 which comes with Qualcomm’s fastest processor, Snapdragon 845, which delivers unparalleled performance and value for money at this price point.
The Vivo X21 UD, on the other hand, is a mid-range device. Let’s see how the phone will fair in the market as the time goes by. Keep watching this space for more information on this as well as other upcoming smartphones in 2018.
