G2B Picks 2017: Top 5 Smartphones Between Rs 10,000-15,000

As is the case every year, 2017 also saw a whole lot of smartphones getting launched in the global (and Indian) market. And these include everything from flagships to budget offerings.

Top-tier devices (whether they’re smartphones or anything else, for that matter) are almost always the ones that hog the limelight. This was the case in 2017 too, with smartphones like Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and LG V30 getting all-around rave reviews.

However, if we talk about the budget-conscious Indian market, it’s the smartphones launched in the fiercely-contested mid-range segment that got the most attention and drove sales numbers for the manufacturers.

So as 2017 draws to a close, here are Gadget2Buy’s picks for this year’s top 5 smartphones in the Rs 10,000-15,000 price bracket.

Note 1: The entries in this listing have been selected from the smartphones reviewed at Gadget2Buy.

Note 2: Prices indicated against each entry in the list are as of December 21, 2017. These are subject to change.

1. Xiaomi Mi A1 | Rs 12,999

Within a short span of its existence, Xiaomi has carved out quite a reputation for itself, launching smartphones that offer incredible value-for-money. And one such handset is the Mi A1. Launched in the second half of 2017, Xiaomi Mi A1 offers a plethora of goodies such as Qualcomm’s energy-efficient Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB of RAM, all-metal construction, USB Type-C port, and a dual-camera system at the back.

But perhaps the best thing about the Mi A1 is that it’s an ‘Android One’ smartphone, which means it offers a stock Android (Nougat) experience instead of one with Xiaomi’s MIUI skin. Being an ‘Android One’ smartphone, Xiaomi Mi A1 is designated to recieve Android updates directly from Google, which is always a good thing. Priced at just Rs 12,999, this is one of the best smartphones in the segment.

2. Motorola Moto G5S Plus | Rs 13,999

The ‘G’ line-up of smartphones has proven to be of immense help in Motorola’s resurgence. The G5 Plus got a lot of praise when it launched earlier this year. But it seems that Motorola didn’t want to rest on its laurels. Barely a few months the launch of Moto G5 Plus, the Lenovo-owned company followed it up with the even better Moto G5S Plus.

3. Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 | Starts at Rs 9,999

Xiaomi’s ‘Redmi’ series has been instrumental in establishing the company as a force to be reckoned in the competitive Indian smartphone market, and the Redmi Note 4 clearly shows why. 4. Huawei Honor 7X | Starts at Rs 12,999

While Huawei doesn’t seem too keen about getting its flagship P and Mate series of devices in the country, it doesn’t mean the largest telecommunications equipment maker in the world doesn’t care about the lucrative Indian smartphone market. The company’s ‘Honor’ sub-brand has a big line-up of exciting smartphones in India, with the latest additon being the Honor 7X.

Taking over the reins from the hugely-successful Honor 6X (which launched earlier year), Huawei Honor 7X has an all-metal chassis that looks great. But the handset’s standout feature is its 5.93-inch FullHD+ display, which has a funky 18:9 aspect ratio (just like the LG Q6). With price starting at Rs 12,999, the Honor 7X is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 659 SoC, paired with 4GB of RAM. The smartphone’s dual rear camera setup can shoot ‘Portrait Mode’ photos, and the whole package is backed by a 3,340mAh cell.

5. Nokia 6 | Rs 14,999

The status and reputation of Nokia in the mobile industry is nothing short of legendary, so when the iconic brand made its return to the smartphone world earlier this year with the Nokia 6, the entire technology stood up and took notice. And even though HMD Global (the Finnish company that holds exclusive license to manufacture Nokia-branded smartphones) has launched many other handsets (such as the Nokia 8, which we reviewed a while back), the Nokia 6’s popularity continues.

Priced at Rs 14,999, the Nokia 6 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset and has 3GB of RAM, in addition to 32GB of internal storage. With an all-metal construction and rock-solid build quality that’s reminscent of the old Nokias, the smartphone includes handy features like NFC and stereo speakers. It comes with a near-stock build of Android Nougat out-of-the-box, with upgrades to Android Oreo and Android P already confirmed.
