Sony Cuts Back On Other Vendors To Meet Apple’s Camera Supply Demands
Sony has been widely known to be distributing the CMOS camera sensors to a number of mobile manufacturers. But, the recent news claims that Sony is now focused on keeping Apple as its priority while distributing their camera sensor technology and has limited distribution to other brands. This in turn is making manufacturers to seek other brands to meet their demands.
Supporting this claim, Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Yoshida Yoshihiko said last January that, some customers reduced the CMOS sensor orders which resulted in quarterly sales fall of about 13%. Apple being Sony’s largest CMOS sensor customers, Sony has decided to make them the priority. Other than Apple, Sony also has vast majority of its supply in Huawei, Oppo and other manufacturers.
Sony is also working on their new CMOS sensor package. The new technology will have an effective resolution of 21.1 MP which is capable of capturing still images at 19.3 MP, 4K videos at 60 FPS and 1080P videos at 240 FPS.
