Qualcomm Announces Snapdragon Wear 3100 With Up To 12 Hours Of Improved Battery Life

When we talk about phone accessories, we usually and mostly think about stuff like headphones/earphones, powerbanks and such. A smartwatch can be one too, but it is perhaps more than a mere accessory. Few years back, Apple introduced its iWatch and changed everything.

A wearable or a smartwatch is like an extension of your smartphone or perhaps a remote access to your phone to interact with a number of key functionalities in it. Alongside some phone companies, Qualcomm has also been making smartwatches for some time now.

And on that note, the world’s most popular phone chipset maker has introduced its updated smartwatch, called the Snapdragon Wear 3100. It is upgrade over the existing Snapdragon Wear 2100 (equipped with a quad-core Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.2 GHz along with Adreno 304).

First things first, the 3100 appears to have the same quad-core Cortex A7 CPU with 1.2 GHz of speed. This means nothing significant has changed. However, this CPU is now assisted by a QCC1110 co-processor which is designed to handle a number of low-power operations and thereby taking the load away from the main chipset. According to the company, it acts as a powerful companion to the main processor, redefining audio, display and sensor experiences for next-gen smartwatches. It also appears to have a learning engine for custom operations like keyword detection.

Without providing specific details, it is claimed that this new smartwatch will provide 4 to 12 extra hours of use over the outgoing model. This will also largely depend on the battery capacity which will vary in different variants of the new wearable.
