Foldable smartphones, it seems, are still quite a bit far away from reality even though a number of specimen would surely be existing in the testing labs of more than one phone manufacturer. Without a doubt, Samsung is the one who has been most associated with launching, or better yet, unveiling such a device to the general public.
On that note, a supposed ‘Project V’ foldable smartphone by Samsung has leaked in live images revealing its design completely. We are not at all sure of the credibility of these images but it is definitely a testing-prototype more than anything. Apparently, the official unveil (or the development altogether) of this phone is said to have been cancelled.
Looking at Project V from the front, it looks like two touch-screen smartphones joined together at their sides making it a single foldable unit. It looks a bit unsophisticated and especially for a one-hand use, it is completely impractical. In fact, from what we can see in the images, it seems to us that the only comfortable way to operate the handset would be to put it on a table since we can’t see it being held with one hand and operated by the other. Our guess is that this Project V device is likely an early prototype or a test mule. The real thing has to be better in more than one ways.
Furthermore, looking at the phone from different angles reveals that the side which opens up is thinner than the other. This might imply that the section which opens up would act as an extender of the UI while the other remains the main phone holding all the major circuitry, chipset and the battery.
There is no information at all regarding the specs or the features, which is kind of expected, and whatever we have shared with you is by looking at the images itself. Keep watching this space for more information on this and other upcoming smartphones in 2018.
