As expected (and as announced actually), the Nokia X6 global rollout has finally begun. HMD Global originally launched the X6, its first smartphone with a notch, in China and there have been considerable interest in it in several other markets. This prompted HMD to make an early announcement about the phone’s global availability later on. That time has now arrived.
The Nokia X6 is first becoming available in Hong Kong as part of its global rollout. Everywhere else other than China, the phone will be sold as Nokia 6.1 Plus. And on that note, it will be under Google’s Android One program.
This means stock operating system, Android Oreo 8.1, with consistently fastest updates for the next 2 years. Other than this, the specifications remain unchanged, that is, Snapdragon 636 processor with Adreno 509 GPU. This is coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. One more thing that also differentiates the Nokia 6.1 Plus from the Nokia X6 is that it will only be available with 4 GB RAM / 64 GB storage option. This is what it is as of now.
Furthermore, the Nokia 6.1 Plus also retains the 5.8-inch IPS LCD notch display of the X6 as well as its aluminium frame and the glass body front and back. The USB-C port and the 3,060 mAh battery are carried over as well.
The 6.1 Plus also gets the same camera module – dual camera with 16 MP + 5 MP lens combination. There’s only EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) for the primary lens which has the aperture size of f2.0 whereas the secondary lens gets f2.2 aperture. The front camera is a 16 MP unit.
The Nokia 6.1 Plus is launched in Hong Kong at a price of HKD 2,288 which translates to Rs 20,000 approximately. While there’s currently so specific date for its Indian launch, but if the Nokia 6.1 Plus is launched here at this price, it would be a challenging proposition for Nokia itself.
We have already compared it with Lenovo Z5 in a comprehensive comparison. Keep watching this space for more information on this as well as other upcoming smartphones of 2018.
