Samsung is possibly the only smartphone manufacturer right now who also has a presence in the flip phone market (also called a clamshell phone). While the market for this kind of a phone is extremely small or rather tiny, Samsung’s latest offering is a decent looking and well-equipped flip phone called the G-9298.
Let’s get done with the not-so-good part first, the phone is China-only right now and there is no information if it will be made available in any other market at all. The company’s previous offering, W2017, was also limited to China. The G-9298 is being looked at as an upgrade to W2017 flip phone from last year.
What it offers?
Also known as the ‘Leader 8’, the phone packs pretty decent specifications as it comes powered by a Snapdragon 821 processor along with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD card). There is a fingerprint sensor at the back.
The camera is good too with the main unit being a 12 mega-pixel lens having an aperture of f1.7. It might as well be as good as the one on the Galaxy S8/S8+. The front camera is a 5 mega-pixel unit with an aperture of f1.9.
Another highlight of the design is the incorporation of two screens – one on the inside which is the main screen and the other on the outside (to be used when the handset is flip closed). Both screens are AMOLED, measure at 4.2 inches and deliver Full HD resolution. Lastly, the battery is a 2,300mAh unit.
We will keep our readers updated if the phone becomes available in other markets as well.
