MWC 2018: Huawei Launches MateBook X Pro, MediaPad M5 Tablets
MWC has started and so many launches are going on. We were hoping Huawei is going to unveil its flagship smartphone P20 but there was no word or any hint about that in the conference instead Huawei released its

3. World’s first commercial 5G modem Huawei Balong 5G01
Starting with 5G modem Huawei Balong 5G01, it claims that it can deliver peak speed of over 2,000 megabits per second on a next-generation network. Huawei CEO, Consumer Business Group, Richard Yu said while unveiling the new technology that Huawei is collaborating with 30 operators, including Vodafone, globally to deploy product based on this chipset. The announcement assumes significance for India, which is looking to highlight readiness for 5G and is working on spectrum auction plan to support 5G.
Other than the chipset Huawei announced MateBook X Pro notebook with super-thin bezels; it features 8th-generation Intel Core i7 or i5 processor; a Nvidia GeForce MX150 GPU with 2GB GDDR5 or Intel UHD Graphics 620; Dolby Atmos sound system audio; and a 57.4Wh Lithium polymer battery with 12 hours of video playback according to Huawei’s lab tests.
It also has a 1MP front-facing camera; quad digital microphones and quad speakers; Bluetooth 4.1; 2×2 Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (2×2 MIMO) support; USB-C x2; a 304x217x14.6mm 13.9-inch display; and comes in mystic silver and space grey.
The third launch is of MediaPad M5 series of tablets with two variants — MediaPad M5 and MediaPad M5 Pro. While the M5 will be available in two screen sizes — 8.4-inch display and a 10.8-inch display, the M5 Pro will be available in only one size — 10.8-inch. Both screen sizes come with curved glass displays, 2560 x 1600 pixels screen resolution and IPS panels. the tablets are powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor.
As of the memory configuration, both devices pack 4GB RAM and offers three storage variants — 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB. There’s also a microSD card slot allowing users to further expand the storage capacity up to 256GB. There’s a 13-megapixel camera sensor placed on the back panel and an 8-megapixel front-facing snapper for video calling.
The MediaPad M5 Pro also comes with added support for Huawei’s M-Pen that features 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity and support for tilting and shading and can last for about 50 days on a single charge. The Huawei MediaPad M5 will be available in two colors — Champagne Gold and Space Grey.
