Recently, Huawei unveiled its P20 and P20 Pro flagship smartphones. Both mobile devices are powered by the company’s own HiSilicon Kirin 970 SoC, currently the most-powerful in the Kirin line-up.

But it seems that the 970 won’t be holding the top spot for long, as its successor will launch later this year, powering Huawei’s upcoming Mate 20 flagship phablet.

According to a report by Chinese website CNMO, the yet-to-be-launched Huawei Mate 20 has been spotted on benchmarking tool AnTuTu’s portal.

The AnTuTu listing shows the Mate 20 rocking a HiSilicon Kirin 980 SoC, the next flagship chipset from Huawei. And if the benchmark scores are anything to go by, Huawei’s upcoming chipset is surely going to be a powerhouse!

Scoring 356918 on AnTuTu, Kirin 980 appears to be fully capable of taking on rival Snapdragon 845 from Qualcomm. But then, AnTuTu scores aren’t exactly known for being reliable, so we’ll just have to wait until Kirin 980 goes official and is put through other comprehensive benchmarking tools.

Taking over the reins from Kirin 970, the upcoming Kirin 980 chipset will come with a second-gen Neural Processing Unit (NPU). It’s expected to have a CPU with Cortex-A75 cores for faster performance, as well as a better GPU. The Kirin 980 will be based on the 7nm process.
