There have been occasional rumors in the past about the next version of Apple’s smallest phone, the iPhone SE. Now though, the rumors are getting stronger and it is quite likely that the next iPhone SE will get launched as early as May.
Supposedly called iPhone SE 2, the phone will get Apple’s A10 Fusion chip which can be experienced in all its glory in the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. Another speculation about the SE 2 is that it will not come with the 3.5 mm audio jack just like its more premium and bigger siblings. If that happens, consider that Apple will provide a Lightning to 3.5 mm converter cable.
The overall dimensions could be different than the current iPhone SE. In that case, the phone shall be slightly bigger as Apple will not really make it any smaller. We do hope that the display will finally be HD (720p) at least. The current iPhone SE is capable of recording 4k videos, but its small screen which is not even HD is a big spoilsport.
The Home button will remain at the bottom of the bodywork and continue to carry the fingerprint sensor. There will be no FaceID to keep the price under control. However, the back side of the phone could be made of glass to support wireless charging. The iPhone SE 2 will be a minor upgrade it seems and shall be Apple’s cheapest new iPhone of 2018.
