In about 24 hours from the time this article is written, we will be witnessing a brand new chapter unfold in the life of Apple. For the first time since 2007, when the first iPhone came out and changed everything about mobile phones, Apple will showcase its new flagship with the most radical design change in the phone’s lifespan so far – an OLED display with almost non-existent bezels at all four sides.
While an OLED display is nothing new and many others have done it already, it is an all-new affair for the American company. The iPhone 8, or the iPhone X, will be the first iPhone which will not have an IPS LCD screen. And even though we may claim to know a good deal about Apple’s upcoming 10th anniversary smartphone, we are still unsure about its exact name.
Latest rumors say that the three new phones will be – iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone X (there will be no iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus). Of course, we will know soon if this is indeed true.
But let us recap and list every single thing we know about the soon-to-be-unveiled iPhone:
OLED Screen
This is going to be the first iPhone with an OLED display panel. We are expecting it to be HDR compliant as well as having the True Tone feature (introduced first in the previous iPad Pro 9.7 inches). The True Tone feature, when enabled, adjusts the white balance of the display so that it matches the ambient light in order to keep the colors appear more natural under different lighting conditions.
Near Bezel-less Display
Again a first for an Apple device, a near bezel-less display at all sides. Due to this, the screen is likely to have a cut-out at the top portion for the front camera and the speaker.

Fingerprint Sensor or Face Recognition System (or both)
While there has been a lot of guesswork about how Apple is going to implement the fingerprint sensor given that there will be no physical HOME button anymore, there is another belief that the company might actually abandon the idea of a biometric sensor completely. Instead, there will be a Face Recognition system (an advanced version of what is present in the top-of-the-line Samsung Galaxy handsets) which shall be fool-proof.
Dual Camera – vertically aligned
It is one of the most talked about features of the next iPhone – the vertically aligned dual camera. While it will be visibly different from the one in the iPhone 7 Plus, the iPhone 8’s dual camera will be more advanced as well. We would like to believe that this time both lenses will have Optical Image Stabilization. Also, there will be support for future applications of Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality functions.
A11 Chipset
We can expect the upcoming iPhone to set new standards in mobile phone performance with its new A11 Chipset. The current iPhone flagships have the A10 chipset (while the latest iPad Pro 10.5 has the A10x chipset). As per the latest reports, the A11 will be a six-core processor having two performance cores and four efficiency cores. Also, it will be not a Fusion chipset since all six cores will be independently controllable.
iOS 11
The next iPhone shall also come with iOS 11 out-of-the-box. The operating system will introduce features like Drag and Drop for the text and images, a new App Switcher, redesigned Multi-tasking etc.
Three New Storage Options
The iPhone 8 will be the most advanced and multimedia oriented iPhone so far. For this reason, we may see three new storage options starting from the lowest 64 GB, 128 GB and then topping out at a massive 512 GB. Of course, this information is not yet confirmed.
Lastly, all this will not come cheap. The starting price is expected to be USD $ 1000. This will definitely not go down well with many people, but given that the newest Galaxy Note 8 also has similar pricing, we will probably digest the same for the latest iPhone as well.
